  • Today (July 1st 2010), on the initiative of Mr Włodzimierz Karpiński, Deputy Chairman of the State Treasury Parliamentary Committee, a meeting was held at the Company’s head office between Adam Leszkiewicz, Deputy Minister of State Treasury, and trade union representatives. Pursuant to the Agreement for Privatisation to the Citizens, the ZA Puławy’s trade unions want to participate, as a company jointly controlled by employees and local authorities, to the contest for the purchase of shares in Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. as part of the pending privatisation process. At the today’s meeting, the parties were expected to present their expectations to the other party.

  • On April 23rd 2010, Vattenfall and Zakłady Azotowe Puławy executed an agreement on cooperation in preparation, construction and future operation of a power project in Puławy. The agreement was signed by Karol Janosz, President of Vattenfall Generation Poland and Paweł Jarczewski, President of Zakłady Azotowe Puławy.  Tuomo Hatakka, Head of the Vattenfall Central Europe Business Group and Vice President of Vattenfall AB, was present at the execution of the agreement.

  • Following analysis of the submitted bids for 84.79% of the ANWIL S.A. shares and additional discussions, and having received revised price and other conditions, PKN ORLEN granted Zakłady Azotowe PUŁAWY S.A. exclusive rights, until June 30th 2010, to negotiate and agree upon all material terms and conditions of the transaction.

  • Zakłady Azotowe Puławy closed the first half of the 2009/2010 financial year with good performance compared with other industry operators. Although the results were lower than those recorded in 2007 and 2008, economic conditions, particularly in the chemical segment, are clearly improving. Compared with the record-high sales revenue for the first half of the 2008/2009 financial year, the sales revenue for H1 2009/2010 fell by 17%, to PLN 895.8m. However, the quarterly results are better than in the same period of 2008/2009 – the sales revenue of PLN 512.5m was almost 27% higher, while the net loss shrank from PLN 21m to PLN 15.1m.

  • A nest of white-tailed eagles containing a brood of three nestlings has been recently discovered near ZA Puławy’s discharge canals. It is probably the third nest of that extremely rare bird to be found in the vicinity of the Company’s industrial facilities. The first one appeared in the late 1990s, in the area near lake Piskory (just a few kilometres away from the enclosure of the Company’s industrial site).

The total value of EU support secured to date by ZA Puławy is PLN 49 million.   • Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. (ZA Puławy) has just concluded four new contracts for sales of caprolactam to Far East markets. The value of the contracts, relating to exports of caprolactam flakes in 2010, is estimated at nearly PLN 180m. The execution of the contracts entrenches the Company’s position in the Asian markets.   • The editorial staff of Polish Market monthly and the Institute of Economics of the Polish Academy of Sciences selected the most economically efficient enterprises in Poland. In the seventh edition of the ranking of Polish enterprises, Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. was awarded the Pearls of Polish Economy Certificate and Title in the Large Pearls category for consistent implementation of the company’s policy and strategy as well as for the leading position among the most dynamic and efficient enterprises in Poland.   • Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management entered into an agreement on subsiding one of ZAP’s key environmental investment projects, namely the construction of the wet flue gas desulphurisation unit using ammonia. The agreement was executed as part of the Infrastructure and Environment Operating Programme for 2007-2013. The subsidy amounts to PLN 20m, which is 11.11% of qualified spending on the project. The planned overall cost of the project is almost PLN 224m.

  • In the financial year 2008/2009 Zakłady Azotowe Puławy SA achieved one of the best financial results in the entire history of the Company despite the unfavourable conditions created by the global economic crisis and slowdown on the chemicals markets. The operating profit exceeded PLN 338m, which is nearly 5.7% less than the last year’s record profit.

  • Construction of the water demineralisation unit is one of the energy saving, pro-environmental replacement projects currently implemented at Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. On September 2nd 2009, the foundation stone ceremony was held marking the beginning of the construction of the new unit. Its cost is expected to amount to nearly PLN 42m.

  • Despite the global economic slowdown, affecting also the markets of significant importance for the Puławy-based Company, the performance in the three quarters of the current financial year was very strong.  In the last quarter, i.e. Q3, the Company’s net profit outperformed the market expectations. According to the released consensus forecast, the Company’s Q3 net profit was estimated at PLN 23m, whereas the actual net profit was PLN 30.1m. The Company generated profit despite the fact that among the Polish companies, it was the most affected by shortages in natural gas, which is the key feedstock used by the Company in its production process.

  • The findings of the feasibility study for the coal gasification project, prepared on request of Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A., prove that the project is viable and should be continued. On February 19th 2009, the Company received from Bechtel Corporation a full analysis of the project involving construction of a unit for producing synthesis gas to be used in ammonia production.

  • Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A . (“Puławy”) managed to benefit from the favourable trends prevailing on the markets of fertilisers and chemicals. Therefore the Management Board decided to make an upward revision of its forecast for the financial year 2007/2008. According to the revised forecast, Puławy will earn a net profit of PLN 330.8m (an improvement on the previous year’s result of more than 154%) and an operating profit of PLN 358.7m (up by nearly 137%).

  • On August 5th, a formal ceremony took place at the offices of Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. at which the Company was granted a permit to conduct business activity in the Starachowice Special Economic Zone.   • Yesterday (June 17th 2008), Zakłady Azotowe Puławy Spółka Akcyjna (“ZA Puławy”) concluded a significant agreement with Air Liquide Polska Sp. z o.o. Under the agreement, Air Liquide will construct an air separation unit on a plot of land leased from ZA Puławy and will subsequently operate it. From January 1st 2010, the unit will produce gases: oxygen and nitrogen. The agreement was concluded for 15 years and its estimated value is PLN 680,000,000.

  • On June 9th 2008, the President of Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. and the President of Lubelski Węgiel Bogdanka met in Puławy with Prof. Jerzy Buzek, Member of the European Parliament, to discuss the prospects for the coal gasification project. A year earlier the two companies signed a letter of intent, in which they declared their willingness to cooperate in the area of processing of coal for application in chemical production and power generation. Prof. Jerzy Buzek is an avid promoter of such solutions and takes keen interest in the new project by LW Bogdanka and ZA Puławy.   • Today, on April 24th 2008, a letter of intent has been signed at the offices of Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. concerning the establishment of Puławski Park Naukowo-Technologiczny (Science and Technology Park of Puławy). At the meeting, a Coordination Team was appointed, whose role will be to implement the project. The objective of the initiative is to create a broad platform for cooperation between the science and business worlds with regard to research and implementation of new technologies.   • Zakłady Azotowe Puławy S.A. (“ZA Puławy”) has commissioned a state-of-the-art unit for storing and loading ash. The unit was built by Energo Mineral of Katowice, a subsidiary of the German conglomerate Steag. It will facilitate the management of ash produced as a result of coal burning in ZA Puławy’s combined heat and power plant. Thanks to the new unit the ash can be used in the construction industry instead of being deposited on the local dump yard.

  • ZA Puławy plans to construct a unit for the production of Polyamide 6 in cooperation with an Italian partner, Aquafil (the Bonazzi Group), a company specialising mainly in the production of polyamide fibres. Recently, there have been visits to the units owned by Aquafil in Slovenia and Italy as well as to the reference unit in China. A framework for the cooperation has already been agreed.   • On March 22nd 2006, the Management Board of Zakłady Azotowe Puławy and the trade unions signed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Rooted in the provisions of the previous CBA, the new agreement reflects new arrangements made between the parties, as well as the recent amendments to the Labour Code. In financial terms, the new Agreement does not give rise to any additional liabilities on the part of the employer. In the long run, it will even reduce these liabilities.

  • ZA Puławy SA has concluded a long-term melamine distribution agreement with Comexport, a company operating in South American. The melamine from Puławy will be marketed in Brasil as early as this quarter (to date, Brasil has chiefly purchased ammonium sulphate from Puławy). This half-year, ZA Puławy SA will increase its annual melamine production capacity by over four thousand tonnes.
