Zaklady Azotowe "PULAWY" has been the leader of the Polish fertilizers sector for over forty years. The location of the company in the Central Europe and precisely in the middle east part of Poland has facilitated success of the company both in the demanding market of the European Union and the dynamically developing eastern markets. The company products are also constantly present in the American market. According to recent ratings the company is one of the Polish twenty biggest exporters, almost half of its production is exported.

Initially “PULAWY” concentrated on the production of nitrogen fertilizers for agricultural needs, but with the development of the company it systematically increased the production of chemicals. The sale of chemicals currently covers 40% of the overall production and grows successively.

One of the priority directions of development was the successive production of melamine. Melamine I installation was launched in 1977. Melamine II was launched in 2001. In 2004 the most recent installation was launched – Melamine III. It has increased the production capacity of Zaklady Azotowe Pulawy with additional 30 thousand tones a year. The work over unique installation for recycling of melamine at Melamine II and III is in progress. At present Zaklady Azotowe Pulawy is the only company in Poland and the third worldwide with the production capacity of 92 thousand tones a year. The company supplies 10% of the world demand and 20% of the European demand for the product.

Moreover, the company is the Polish leading producer of caprolactam and nitrogen fertilizers, among others ammonium nitrate and urea. In the American market the best known fertilizer from “PULAWY” is Urea Ammonium Nitrate Solution.

In “PULAWY” special attention is also given to the environment protection. The company was awarded “Responsible Care” certificate and the title of “Patron of Polish Ecology”. Numerous certificates and awards prove the highest quality of products and at the same time they create an image of the company which harmoniously coexists with the environment.

Ideas for the future

In order to secure the position of Zaklady Azotowe PULAWY S.A. in the chemical market, together with the local authorities, the company took the initiative of creating Pulawy Production Park. The main objective of the project is to actively seek partners that would join in the common undertakings and development of the local network of entrepreneurs. Advanced infrastructure and rich raw materials base ensures low costs and quick realization of investments. There are vast developed tracts of land for investment areas of 568 hectares waiting for the partners. Access to a modern dumping ground and purification plant will facilitate utilization and a large spectrum of specialized services (design, transport, laboratory analysis, construction and renovation services) which will make an effective start possible. The business-friendly local authorities guarantee land-tax dispensation and also offer help in running commercial enterprise. Highly qualified stuff and relatively low production costs constitute additional assets of the joint enterprise.

Government assistance programmes which are subsidized from Structural Funds of the European Union can also be an encouragement for potential investors. The location of the Park is also of significance as it provides easy access to the markets of the Eastern Europe and the European Union.
